If I were to write a letter to my younger self as regards my journey accepting sickle cell, here's what it will look like

Dear self,

Even though these people have the same disorder as you and it might feel like you are related to them in some form?

Always remember that they are not you. Your journey is different and unique. You don't have to feel guilty for not feeling what they feel.

Not having constant hospital admission is a blessing to a curse and you don't have to feel like an outcast.

It's their struggle, we are all struggling with something in this world after all and you have your own struggles too, some that are sickle cell-related and some that are not.

I would like you to be brave and show up as the owner of this journey because you are. Your story is worthy of sharing.

Your present self.☺

For over four years now I've been trying to write

For over four years now I've been trying to write a fictional book 😂 (it's not easy) .

I have no background whatsoever in writing maybe that's why it is taking so long.

You know I have to learn lot of things especially basis.

The interesting thing is that I've grown. I keep talking about growth because I believe so much in it.

While trying to write for four years, I've been able to improve my creative writing skills.

This is one of the writings that proves growth.

I know that one day I'll be ready to publish but until then enjoy this piece titled addiction.

Second slide: 2015, I just completed a training on graphics designing and Microsoft office. I was undergoing a compulsory three months internship program.

Third slide: I'm not sure of the year but I know it's before 2015. @thedeola I loved this picture.

Forth slide: After my graphics design training, I started practicing with Photoshop. It was my favorite so I played with photo manipulation a lot.

I'm sharing a tool I've recently found helpful.

As a creator and social media manager living with a chronic illness, I like to look for the easiest way to work.

I think I like doing things the lazy way.

Recently, I'm loving this Instagram tool called @plannthat. It is my favorite scheduling tool presently.

With Plann, there is so much you can do but one feature I love is that you can plan your feed and see what it looks like before posting. Don't be surprised if I change the appearance of my feed again.

I also love that I can create an Instagram strategy with their custom strategy or a new one. Plann is really a great Instagram tool.

Honestly, as I explore Plann, I find Instagram more interesting.

At this point, I was just coming to terms with the reality after hearing other warriors stories with avascular necrosis.

Some said they had it for six years, some eight, some even more but I hoped mine would not be up to six years.

Fam, it's five years already.

Funny how time flies. I'm good though, the pain isn't as much as the early days and I'm managing it quite well, if I should say so.

I believe it's a matter of time. I'll walk well again.

Moral: Know your genotype, help break the sickle cycle and stop the stigmatization.

I look too dark to be true here.

I hated going out.

I was never the child with many friends in secondary school. I used to be bullied too, many times actually.

Somehow I became really reserved and preferred to be alone. I enjoyed my own company (even till now).

But the lonely helped my learn things that made me realize my worth.

The more I added, the more I became confident in myself.

I don't know who needs to hear this but you need to know your worth and never stop adding to your worth.

Never stop learning, or stop pushing to become better.

I think I'm not totally into Instagram anymore.

Although I still love it here. I love seeing your posts and engaging with my favs but I don't just have it 💯 anymore and that's fine.

It's okay to not be 💯 with something you use to be crazy over.

I think I'm enjoying my major strength which is blogging again and I will explore more of it this month.

All it takes is being conscious of yourself. Do you know your strengths?

As a creator, I doubt we can ever get over the fear of not being good enough.

At least I know I do have this feeling. I'm human.

I constantly ask myself "I'm I even worthy of talking about this?" "is this good enough to be online?"

This May, I hope you and I can let go of this fear and just be human.

I was on Facebook yesterday when someone asked this question in a group.👆🏾

People started dropping comments and to my surprise many said they would go for it.

I have heard about the bone marrow transplant from some warriors but I haven't really educated myself on it so I did not comment.

Here's what I did.👇🏾

I searched on Google and read everything article I could find on bone marrow transplant for sickle cell treatment and went on YouTube, watched videos on it as well.

Today, I felt I should ask you this question. I'd love to hear your opinion if you had the money or you got sponsor, would you go for the transplant?

I'll go first.

There's a lot, from playing football when I was younger to playing basketball and even fasting in the month of Ramadan.

In fact, I wondered why people said I cannot do it when I haven't even tried.

There is too much rules guiding Sickle Cell but that doesn't mean you have to follow everything.

There are always exceptions to rules and some are meant to be broken.

Learn to try things out for yourself and decide if it is right for you or not.

I shared the reason I fast in the month of Ramadan even though the rule said I should not in my recent email.

For me I think it's the act of gratitude.

It is important to take a break, unplug and look back. You will realize how much you've grown.

And that will help you develop the sense of gratitude.

It might seem like there is nothing to be grateful for but I tell you there is a lot.

The fact that you are seeing this is enough reason to be grateful.

I was reading a chapter of The Secret, and it was stated that one of the secrets to success is being grateful for what you have.

I am grateful for growth.

What better way to start a week than with gratitude?
