Here are six important steps to achieving your goals by Brian Tracy
How to achieve your goals by Brian Tracy
1. Focus on SMART goal setting
SMART goal setting means setting a goal that is;
Specific means your goal should be narrow and be pointed at one particular thing.
You can tell what exactly you want and most importantly when you want it. Being specific about your goals gives you clarity. You understand what you want.
For example, do you want to lose or gain weight? Get specific on the amount of kilo you want to lose or gain.
Just like losing and gaining weight, be specific whenever you set a goal.
Your goal also needs to be Measurable.
How would you know if you have achieved your goal? It is by setting a measurable goal.
You have to be able to track your goal and track your progress.
An achievable goal is one that is in your power to achieve.
You need to make sure your goal is one you have the capacity to achieve at least at the moment.
How realistic is your goal?
Even though it is important to dream big, it is also important to be realistic.
For example, setting a goal to become a millionaire in three months when you have no skills or experience is not realistic.
Be honest with yourself.
A goal is no goal without a deadline. You need to set a specific date for your goal.
While setting a timeline, do not put too much pressure on yourself. Allow your timeline to be flexible so you can change it when you do not achieve within that period.
2. Break your goal down into smaller steps
Set a goal to achieve something that is so big, so exhilarating that it excites you and scares you at the same timeBob Proctor
Big goals will not only excite you, but they will also scare you. It might scare you into not taking action.
You might feel overwhelmed but it is important to act.
Acting will become easier if you break your goals down into smaller steps.
Break down your goal into smaller steps and make sure you write down each step.
Writing each step will help you get clear on how you can get to where you want which is achieving your goal.
3. Set specific milestone
The milestone you set will be important events that help you measure your progress. They have to be specific so that you know when you have achieved it.
Another important thing is to always celebrate your milestones. No matter how small the milestone, you should celebrate them.
When you do, you would find that you would be more motivated to keep going.
4. Eat that frog
Now that you have written the steps you need to take in order to achieve your goals, it is time to start taking action.
In Brian Tracy’s book titled Eat that frog, he wrote about how you can stop procrastination and start taking action towards your goal.
You can have so many steps written out to achieve your goal but there is one that is more important.
That one would most likely be the one that would push you closer to your goals and sometimes, it is the one you are most likely to procrastinate.
Whatever that task is, it is your frog. Eat it.
Do that task first, make sure you complete it before moving on to another task.

5. Implement the 80-20 rule
Brian Tracy recommends the 80-20 rule almost every time. This rule is simple.
20% of your task will usually account for 80% of your success.
It simply means that you have to focus on the most rewarding tasks when it comes to achieving your goal.
Identify the 20% in the tasks that you have written and work on them every day because they matter the most to your goal.
6. Start achieving your goal now
I think this is one of the most important tips of the Brian Tracy goals setting technique that I read. If you have read this article to this point and you haven’t learned anything, I need you to take this tip seriously.
No matter how much planning you do, it won’t work if you don’t start acting.
If you are also an overthinker like me, this is a very important tip for us.
You cannot overthink your dreams or goals into reality. You have work for them and there is no better time to start than now.
It’s not tomorrow when things are okay, it is now.
Take small steps now and be open to failing along the journey.
Don’t wait till things are perfect.
These are Brian Tracy’s tips on goal setting according to his Youtube video.
Now, here is my bonus tip to achieving your goal.
Never give up on that goal. You can only achieve your goal if you do not give up.
Consistently work towards your goals and one day you will be living them.
I am challenging myself to a 60-day goal setting. I will pick a goal, use these steps, and record my progress every day. Also, I’ll share the result with my email subscribers.
